At the end of the school day at Pueblo West High School, getting out of the parking lot or drop off loop can be quite the wait. With only two ways to exit the school, from the dirt parking lot and the main parking lot, traffic can get pretty tied up on Capistrano.
The Pueblo West Metro District noticed most cars leaving the school turn left. PWMD decided it was in everyone’s best interest to build new entrance and exit points to the school.
A new road will be built off of Spaulding and lead to the high school. This will allow students, parents, and staff to enter and leave the school a little faster.
“The new road should be started around the time school gets out, so we do not interrupt anything. And it should hopefully be completed in the fall of the next school year,” Rick Morgan of PWMD said. “We don’t know for sure how much this road is going to cost, but we have a budget of $50,000 that we get to use towards it.”
Principal Martha Nogare already has plans for the new road, “Instead of the buses picking up the students from the front of the school, they will get picked up behind the school,” Nogare says. She also thinks that the old bus loop can be another pick up or drop off loop.
Hopefully by the beginning of next school year, Pueblo West High School will have another way to exit the school, leaving Capistrano a little less congested than it is today.
