Chemistry students carve with explosives

Rico Cordero blows up a pumpkin for a project in his AP History class taught by Mrs. Amy Derting. Rico Cordero blows up a pumpkin for  Amy Derting’s AP Chemistry class. Derting’s students mixed calcium carbide with water to create calcium hydroxide and acetylene which was ignited to create an explosion to pop the pieces out of the pre-carved pumpkins.
