The Pueblo West High School football team is starting the season 2-0. They beat Pueblo County High School 28-7 and dominated Pueblo East High School 36-14.
“County is not the best team and East is young, so it wasn’t the hardest to win against them. We can still do a lot better though,” said junior football player Kolyn Kremer.
Their goals for the season are to win the SCL title, go to playoffs, and then win the state title. The team is in “high spirits” for the rest of the season.
When asked about Coach Pinkerton’s opinion, Kremer said, “He thinks we played well but can improve greatly. Penalties and poor tackling; we still need to get better at,”
Their next game is Friday, September 15 against Pueblo South High School at Cyclone Stadium. There is a big rivalry between the teams. The Pueblo West and Pueblo South football game is commonly referred to by students as “The Black and Blue Game.”
“As long as we come out playing hard there will be no doubt that we will win, but if we came out the way we started against East we are going to lose,” said senior football player Zach Rudd.
